Happy Memorial Day!!

TIM HAD A DAY OFF!! YAHOOO!!! It was so nice to have my Tim for a whole day! He has 2 days off this summer (other than Sundays), Memorial Day and 4th of July. We had a great time sharing the holiday with Tim's sister, Sara, and her husband, Jonathan. We slept in for the morning after a fun-filled activity sunday night after church. Then went to Jon and Sara's house for the afternoon/evening. We talked a lot and shared funny stories. Jon made some kickin' hot dogs and hamburgers. And we had my favorite.....Ice Cream Sundaes!!!!! (Thanks Sara! ) Then we played YAHTZEE!! It was Jon's first time ever playing and he won a game too. Tim also won a game. Go our men! We got to stay until 11:00 and had a blast.

The in-laws having fun!

We praise the Lord for those who have served our country and pray for our troops. We have two cousins in Iraq right now. God has blessed America!!!!! Hallelujah!

Learning to write all over again

Kindergarten? Me? I never went to kindergarten as a kid.....I was too smart for that! ha ha ha :) Now I find myself with the great task of teaching it come August. I am very excited for the things I am going to learn and how God is going to show Himself mightily through each and every aspect. As I have been looking through the curriculum, I have found that I will be teaching my precious students how to write. I realized, First- I need to learn myself how to write!!!!!!! =) My handwriting is unique in it's own way... it's nothing like the "original." I looked over the 'chart' at each letter and thought, "I better start practicing!" So I got me a piece of paper and traced the big lines on it and began to try to form the "shape" in front of me. Whew!!! It was a doosy! I practiced and practiced, traced and traced. I had a row (a couple of rows for some letters) for each letter and it was the most pathetic thing I've ever seen on paper! I couldn't believe that I wrote that!!! When Tim came home, I showed him and we laughed about it together and analyzed each letter discovering which ones I'm good at, and which ones seem impossible!! I think I got the "L" down!!!! I know now that I will have much sympathy for my fellow struggling students this fall. =) I am quite embarrassed that I cannot form the proper letters correctly. In time, it will come- I HOPE!!!! I know it's something simple, but I know Jesus cares about the small and simple things-- I'm asking Him to help me learn how to write!

A funny story- One Sunday, a little boy was running across the pew bench (front row!) before church started. Tim kind of looked at me and smiled because he thought it was humorous; he is a very cute, sweet boy. But his smile turned to laughter when I said, "And that's one of my students!!"

Adjusting

At first I had a really hard time, I cried a lot. I miss our church family at Lifeway. God is always good and has a perfect plan. We really like our new church and church family. They certainly don't replace any of our loved ones at Lifeway but just added to. :) May God enlarge our hearts! There are many ministries to be involved in here. We are waiting to see where God will have us serve. We are in the choir, and would like to be involved in visitation and the bus ministry, but with Tim's work schedule, it's not possible right now. Maybe when school starts! Tim is preaching in Sunday School this Sunday. :) yeah!!!!! And he was asked to be the Awana Commander for wednesday nights once the school year starts. He hasn't made a final decision yet. We would also like to be involved with the teenagers. We love teenagers!! The youth leaders right now said they could use some help with different things. yipppeee! We'll see what God has for us. We'll let ya know what all happens when it happens ....after tim's summer work schedule.
This is some of our loved and missed friends like family....
We love you Trey, Blake, Christiana, Bethlee, Grant, and of course Pastor Steve and Melinda(not pictured). Just think Melinda- in 7 years we really could have a couch full of our own like that!!! :)

Happy Birthday Tim!!! - May 23

Tim's birthday was yesterday and he had to work 3-11. But I was able to make him his favorite dinner and one of his favorite desserts- Boston Cream Pie. My friend Sarah let me borrow a bunch of birthday decorations and I had fun surprising him when he got out of bed. Tim's favorite hockey team is the Toronto Maple Leafs, and he has been eyeing this T-shirt/hat combo on their website. Since the Leafs are out of the playoffs, all of their stuff went super sale. So I was able to get him this t-shirt and much needed hat for dirt cheap! He was so surprised.
It was another short special day!

Hallelujah Day Anniversary- May 21!!!!!!

I have been married to the most wonderful, handsome man in the whole world for 1 year!!!!! We have had an exciting year together. We praise our God and rejoice in the awesome marriage HE has given to us. We spent some time dedicating ourselves and marriage to Him again....as we did 1 year ago. We tried to celebrate a little of our anniversary on Saturday but Tim had to work from 1-9. We did get about 2 hours in the morning to go through memories and eat. I tried to make a lot of the food we had at our wedding. It was fun. I even attempted to make a cake similar to the one we had. I had fun decorating with much wedding memorabilia and pictures. How fun! It was special.

For those of you who were at our wedding you'll understand better! :)

Sunday, we went to church and had an activity afterwards because it was our church's 43rd anniversary celebration. When we got home for a few hours before choir practice, we watched our wedding video. Needless to say, there were many tears. We are so grateful to the Lord for a perfect Hallelujah Day and so grateful for all of our friends and family who played such a huge part. We miss you. We can say that every day has been a Hallelujah Day for us. Each day gets better and better. We are human and have had some hard times, but every day ended a hallelujah day! God is good!

Summer Job

We did move here to SC on April 30. Here is a picture of us and my Grandma at our new church. Aunt Judy and Grandma came and helped us move in. They were a huge help. Also some men from the church helped us unload our truck and they were a blessing as well. We have been praying for a summer job for Tim, and we praise the Lord he provided one! He works Monday - Friday 3pm-11pm and Saturdays 1pm-9pm. He's a hard workin' man! We are grateful that God has provided. The environment is kind of hard.... he works at a factory called Imperial Diecasting. The language is awful and everyone smokes around him. Oddly, they are allowed to smoke while they work-- I'm still trying to figure that one out!!!?? But he has met some nice people. Tim invited this one man to come to church with us last sunday and he came!! We were so excited. Pray that he will keep coming.
As far as for me working, I do have off most of the summer. There are a couple of weeks that I will substitute teach at the school's summer day camp, but that's about it. I am really loving it. I take care of my home and my husband - AND LOVE IT! It's been so wonderful to be home. I have worked non-stop since I've been 16 and I am enjoying the time of rest and recup and lesson planning before the school year starts. I do miss Tim a lot since he's gone so much now. It's been an adjustment. We are used to being with each other ALL the time, and doing everything together. But God is always good and knows what He's doing. This is only for a season.

Blog or Not to Blog?!?!

Well I wasn't sure if I wanted to get into this blogging, but after a few weeks of not being able to email, I realized that I need to stay in touch with my friends and this was the easiest way right now. Our avenue of internet connection has been giving us trouble with emailing, so that is why most of you haven't heard from us via email. Sorry! Tim set us up but I wasn't sure I wanted to get involved, but I now see it's a must every now and then. :) So...I will update you on the last number of weeks eventually. You may be thinking, "What's the big deal?" For those of you who know me well, know that I am a person who is so focused on time - so "time conscience" that it tends to be a fault. I despise wasting time. And I knew that if I got involved in this I would be wasting much of my time and get too consumed in it when I could be reading books that I've been wanting to read, and home projects I've put off for years, etc. Anyway, here I am! We'll do this blog together attempting to update you as best we can. So- if you want any really juicy details (about MY life, that is) you'll have to call me!!! hee hee ;)
Pray that I will be balanced in my time! :) Balance is the key, right??!!

Finally a Job!

Hi there from the Harneys!
For many months now, we have been praying for the Lord to provide me with a job. Since camp season ended last summer and the public school substituting ended in September, I started looking for a job. I really felt the Lord leading me in the way of youth ministry and had a really great opportunity to be a youth pastor at a church in Kentucky. But shortly after visiting the church we received a call saying that now wasn't the right time. So with that I kept pursuing work in the area. I tried to get jobs at grocery stores, banks, and gas stations but it seemed that wherever I went the door was being closed. It finally dawned on me to "enroll" in the ministry placement from Northland Baptist Bible College, and through that I received names of several churches that were in need of a youth pastor. I contacted them upon receiving the information, but never really heard anything back. Finally, as the new year started to pass by, I was burdened to do whatever I could to seek the job God wanted. So I asked for the list of schools in the country needing teachers and started to contact them. Within just a few days of contacting schools, one school kept contacting me and was showing some interest in having me teach at their school. Within a week of being contacted we made a trip down to see both the school and the church. After seeing the church and through much prayer, we knew that this is where the Lord was leading us. The school actually didn't just want me to teach, but they were also very intersted in having Heidi teach in their K-5 department.
And so that is where we are now. After a month of getting things ready to leave our home in Indiana, we packed up our bags and headed to South Carolina to teach at Easley Christian School. We are really excited about the ministry that the Lord has given us. We are looking forward to the coming school year with much anticipation of how God is going to use us. Our school has a policy to allow unsaved children into the elementary area where both of us will be teaching, so there is a great opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus with our students. Please pray with us that we may see many come to know Him as a result of being in our classrooms. I have an especially great opportunity as I prepare the students in the 6th grade for Junior High and High School where they must give testimony of salvation before being allowed into the school.
Well, that does it for our first update. Please keep us in your prayers, and do stay in touch.

This was right before we left our old apartment in Indiana.
